my colleague randi kaye's in woodbridge watching the action there. how it's looking? >> reporter: it's looking busy jim. we are in prince william county. you probably recall that president obama won this county back in '08. we've had a steady stream of voters here. it's about a two-hour wait. -year-old in the day to vote. that's in gone down since then. 2600 registered voters where we are, and they were lined up before dawn, before the doors even opened. what's interesting is the landscape of what's changed here. the political landscape has changed quite a bit. the old virginia versus the new virginia. old virginia is religious, republican, white working class. the new virginia is urban and diverse diverse. right now, virginia's about 30% minority, obama does better with that group than the white working class. we talked to plenty of voters here. what one had to say earlier today. what made you bring out the family today? is this a lesson in election politics? >> i think it was -- it's good for the kids to see mom and dad vote. i think it's more important to stand in

that's where we find randi kaye. for folks who don't know the area, this is 30 miles or so from washington. what are people saying? do they feel optimistic? positive here? >> reporter: they feel excited to vote. i can tell that you. there are some long lines but the folks are inside. we're kept outside to broadcast this morning. folks were lining up here, suzanne, before dawn, about 2,600 registered voters here. they don't have easterly lir voting in virginia. they have what's called absentee/in-person voting so you need a pretty good excuse not to be here today. this is the first time they have the new voter i.d. law. before you could sign an affidavit saying you are who you are, that doesn't work anymore. i have been talking to folks and they say they've been waiting two hours. they only have four machines inside. most of them feel it's their duty. they don't care about the long waits. here is what some of them told me. what made you bring out the whole family today? is this a lesson in election politics. >> i thin

randi kaye is joining us from woodbridge, virginia. what have you learned about turnout so far? >> reporter: i just got off with the state electoral board and here's what they told us. they called turnout robust, likely bigger than it was in 2008. they said it's been a huge turnout so far. in some precincts they had to bring in more voting machines. there were a couple of problems, wolf. one is a couple people came in to vote and told that they already had voted. so they were given provisional ballots, but now those vote also be investigated to see if they can be counted. but the biggest problem was in kcovingto covington, where president obama was actually listed as the republican on the electoral ballot, along with mitt romney. so that would be a real problem. so it's unclear how many people voted with the ballot that way. then officials changed the ballot to the paper ballot and listed the president as a democrat. >> hard to believe, this is the united states of america and there are problems like that. that's just one of many problems around the country. it's shocking when y
